Our Story

Company founder, Charles Damaskus, fondly known as “Chuck” by his family and friends, started working as a chemist with a strong desire to help animals. Charles worked diligently in research and development, exploring different animal-related topics.

Family was very important to Charles, who was a husband, father to 2 daughters and a son, and their pet Mitzie. Being an avid animal lover himself, Charles understood how important pets were to their families. Keeping them safe and healthy was a top priority. He knew there was no better love than that from your four-legged friend, so Charles did what he did best, turning his passion into a reality…and that’s where his journey and the For-Bid® story began.

Charles was well known throughout the community. He built relationships with many local Veterinarians in the area and in Florida, collecting information that would change his life and the lives of pet owners forever. Charles first endeavors were creating B-12 shots, diet pills and vitamins for dogs, but he knew he could do more.

The idea of For-Bid® originated during a conversation in the 1960’s between Charles and his Veterinarian friend, who brought up the problem of dogs eating their feces.

He knew he could help solve this challenging problem…and began his research. He reached out to multiple Vets to discuss some ideas he had to help stop dogs from eating their stool. After testing different products and formulas, he solved the problem.

The result was an amazing product, specifically designed to stop stool-eating…that actually worked! With some brainstorming and a few games of family Scrabble, the name was finally chosen…
For-Bid®. It “For-Bids” your dog from eating his/her stool.

Soon the product, For-Bid®, was manufactured, packaged and ready to send to many Veterinarian’s offices and to be available to pet owners. Charles involved his entire family to send out informational mailings, packing boxes and shipping orders.

Today, Charles’ legacy lives on…For-Bid® is still a family-run business, with daughters and grandchildren working to fill orders and answer customer questions.

Throughout the years, For-Bid® has become the industry standard in coprophagia deterrents, recommended by Vets to help countless animals and their owners around the globe.
